My work starts with the breath.
I develop an obsession with monitoring it, which provokes moving the body’s analysis of it and draws my attention to a vessel inside me. Wind. What a frightening and exhilarating sensation the body must endure on the coldest days. Sheltered from intense climate, yet the sky possesses flying forms above me awakens connectivity —an urge to look up, allowing reality to escape. As grounded as I can be, the force of matter and data still reaches out through waves, as does the mind. Connectivity. Why do I feel so connected to the volatile atmosphere gliding by without me? Falling. A cloud represents persistence or the absence of thoughts emerging from a pool of blue sky. I attach space, time, technology, thought, and self within the floating cloud as I study my being. I move with, against, and through its passing. The phenomenological shift from a place in time, skipping through the vastness of ocean blue, I, too, transform into something new. I begin to analyze the white puff, and its space guides me through concepts of attachment. The practice of gazing pins my senses with the external world, and the mind’s process enhances memory.
Compounded by many elements, I hold onto light and shadow observed, reproduced, and manipulated, as Vilem Flusser states, into the “endlessly remembered” and the “endlessly repeatable.” My interests are evidential data; of what was once fleeting yet remains present within space and place. My process consists of accumulating the cumulus and its journey through the blue expanse of a screen. The cloud is symbolic and figurative. It embodies interconnectivity, developing into more nuanced realities, both mechanical and anthropological.
Technology’s capabilities reach depths beyond our three-dimensional plane that expands, teaches, challenges, develops, and destroys —an arena. The body, cloud, and technological representation serve as my tools and a compulsive desire for completeness. I am here to create an arena for light, sound, image, and time within space.
