Generations

The earliest memory I have of being on a horse is very clear in my mind. I was maybe three years old, and my grandmother had me in the saddle with her, and we were riding in the woods checking the fence and the cattle. Nothing but the rhythmic sound of leather rubbing against itself and a toddler asking the name of every cow within sight. We had this beautiful, loud-colored, black and white stallion named “Blunder.” He was the most gentle, well-minded horse anyone could ask for. As a general rule, you should never trust a stallion because they could turn on you at any moment, more so than a mare or gelding. It takes a lot of trust and confidence in your horse to put your young granddaughter on a stud and go ride out in the pasture. To this day, I still think about my grandma letting me ride Blunder with her, and I believe that is the moment when my soul fell in love with horses.

My family traces back to the original “Old Three Hundred” settlers of Texas, making me 9th generation Texan. My family has been ingrained with horses in all aspects of life throughout these generations, from having them a necessity for work and transportation to raising and showing them in the most significant breed associations in the country, the American Quarter Horse and the American Paint Horse Associations.

Horses are also the driving force behind my photography which has led me to explore the emotional connections and bonds between people and their horses. My family and family history are huge influences on my work, and I endeavor to provide a unique look into the world of owning and showing horses. Everyone has their motives as to why they are involved in the horse industry, and for me, family is the biggest reason.
